Camping in the great outdoors with friends and/or family can certainly be an enjoyable experience and a memorable one. The actual spot that you decide can determine just how much fun and enjoyment you are going to have. You don't want to be in a spot that is full of garbage and holes, smells bad, and doesn't offer any sunlight. This is why it is important to choose the best spot available. Here are a few tips on what you should look for.
Necessities:
First of all, you will need to figure out just what kind of necessities you are going to require for this trip. Are you camping with a tent or a camper? Most camp grounds have separate spots for each facility. A camper will require power so it will need to be next to a plug-in and people with tents will not be able to use these designated spots. Make sure that you are familiar with what areas you are allowed to stake claim to.
Also, if you are with kids and/or with someone who can't get around too easily, you will want your camp ground to be close to the bathroom facilities. Usually these facilities are spread around for convenience, but some campgrounds can be some distance from the closest bathroom.
Boat ramps and docks will also be scattered around these camp grounds as well. So if you own a boat and want to get it in to the water as fast and easily as possible, find a camp spot that is near one of these ramps or docks.
Playgrounds or Sporting Grounds:
Many state camping areas have designated playgrounds for kids to go to. If you have kids that might be interested in using the playground, look for a spot near one of these.
These areas also often have places that are designated for sand volleyball, horseshoes, baseball fields, basketball courts, etc. Parking yourself next to these spots will ensure that you don't have to drive off looking for an area if you plan on doing any of the above mentioned activities.
Lay of the Land:
Last but not least, you will want to make sure that the land where you settle down at is flat, somewhat grassy, and that there are not a lot of rocks. Rocks make for uncomfortable sleeping if you are laying on the ground and if there is no grass and it rains, chances are that your camping spot is going to turn into a giant mud puddle.
