Chair Used Wheel Sports - The Glory Of Playing Sports For Those In A Wheelchair

Being in a wheelchair doesn't mean the end of the world for playing sports. In fact, for athletes who have a growing passion for sports, a chair used wheel can now be easily modified or upgraded for their use. From basketball, football, hockey, Taekwondo, rock climbing, billiards, bowling, hang-gliding, water skiing, tennis, wheelchair racing, and medieval jousting tournaments are among the few sports that a wheelchair user can participate. These guys on wheelchairs don't know how to quit, their determination is as hard as stone.

Wheelchair basketball, for example, started in 1946 in the Veterans Administration Hospitals. It was when soldiers who returned from the Second World War pretty well paralyzed and confined for the rest of their lives in a wheel chair. Because the war had rationed the use of metals, they started using a chair used wheel. They tried to find an outlet for their frustrations, problems and their unchallenged energy.

It began with sports such as catch, ping-pong, and pool. They then moved from bowling, volleyball, and swimming to the more energetic touch football, softball, water polo, and eventually basketball. Although many other sports are added during that time, it was basketball that became popular. From that time on, wheelchair basketball spread across the nation to VA hospitals in Boston, Chicago, Memphis, Richmond and New York. It also reached across the border to Canada and across the ocean towards England. Before long the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) was born.

Can you imagine a man on a wheelchair climbing a cliff with his wheel chair? A used chair wheel modified for that purpose was what Geno Rodgers used to do with just that. He has traveled six continents, thirty nine countries, island nations and several bodies of water. He enjoys not only rock climbing, he also has a diverse recreational activities like, skydiving, paragliding, scuba diving and trekking to the Himalayas including an expedition to Mr. Everest. This is all possible with today's wheelchairs.

Another new sport is power wheelchair racing. This type of sport can be done by people with high level of injuries and people with limited capability. It is done using a power chair, and it is good for the mind, body and soul of the competitor, especially when they race head to head with someone.

Because there are no many sports and activities involving a chair used wheel, those who are confined can, in many cases, lead an active life. Despite limited mobility, there are many activities and outlets available for those who still wish to play sports. Wheelchair-based sports have removed many perceived limitations.

Under Armour Varsity Backpack Review

The Varsity backpack is the perfect size for middle school and high school students. It has appropriate storage without a lot of unneccesary pockets and hidden compartments. The shoulder straps are ergonomically correct, reducing strain on the upper back. Both of my boys said that the backpack is comfortable and holds all of their school materials. I find the backpack to be durable; kids can be rough on their backpacks and the Varsity is up for the challenge. I recommend this to others.

Under Armour Varsity Backpack Feature

  • Anatomically-shaped shoulder straps
  • Anatomatically shaped shoulder straps
  • Roll out matt
  • Wet dry tunnel pocket
  • Wetdry zippered pocket under flap

Potato Recipe - Party Potatoes for a Hungry Crowd

Party potatoes will satisfy even the hungriest crowd! How do I know? Read on.

Back in college my volleyball team was in my hometown playing in a tournament. Mom was gracious enough to accept my request to host a team dinner at the house. Mom always says her goal is to prepare enough food to feed "Cox's Army." Maybe this is some secret service special detail that only a Mom would know about, because I don't remember reading about "Cox" in any of my history classes.

Mom made her menu and prepared the meal and believed she had the army covered. And she was right! The team was quite satisfied after dinner and the only dish the team left empty was the party potatoes! Mom was very proud to have more food than could be eaten! She certainly does not like anyone to leave the table hungry.

If a large family gathering is scheduled for Thanksgiving, the following recipe from my Mom's kitchen can add a very filling side dish to your table.

2 lb. bag hash brown potatoes

1 pt sour cream

2 cans cream of mushroom soup

1 can cream of potato soup

2 cups sharp cheddar cheese

Salt & pepper to taste

Mix and put in casserole dish.

Bake 40 minutes @ 350 degrees.

Optional:
Put some shredded cheese on top of casserole.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Thanks Mom.

Bagless Vacuum Cleaners And How To Choose The Best One

Every home with carpet needs a vacuum cleaner. The newest market differentiation is of bagless vacuum cleaners versus conventional vacuum cleaners. Conventional vacuum cleaners pull dirt and waste up from the floor and store it in a bag; this bag is then removed and disposed of. The drawback to this system is that you have to discard the bag when it is full and replace it. The bags aren't particularly expensive, but sometimes manufacturers stop making the size you need. This effectively means it's time to get a new vacuum.

Bagless vacuum cleaners are an outgrowth of the small hand vacuums first made in the 1980s. They use carefully ducted air to deposit all the dust and grime in a catch-container that gets emptied after each use. These have no disposable bags, so they are more convenient and have a lower total cost of ownership. Additionally, if you accidentally vacuum up the car keys, it is easier to fish them out of the grime.

A drawback to bagless vacuum cleaners is that they have separate filters for dust and allergens. These can be fragile and require regular cleaning. In addition, if one of them is destroyed, a replacement can sometimes be pricey. This is somewhat offset by the fact that an Internet market for parts has sprung up to meet this need. With conventional vacuum cleaners, the filtration system is part of the disposable bag.

For bagless vacuum cleaners, look at features you'll want, such as a headlight, integrated cleaning kit and built in dusting wands and cleaning nozzles. The industry is moving towards bagless vacuum cleaners for their convenience features (and the lower overhead of making replacement bags); therefore, most of the higher end vacuum cleaners are now bagless.

We have looked at and can recommend the Eureka bagless 4885 Whirlwind SmartVac vacuum cleaner. It is affordably priced and has a powerful 12-amp motor for suction. It also has several attachments to extend your reach, such as a cleaning wand. It's also geared for easy maintenance, with tubes that resist getting clogged. The dirt cup is easy to remove and empty.

For people who live in apartments, Hoover's U5269-900 EmPower Bagless Upright Vacuum has the quietest 12-amp motor of any of the models tested by Consumer Reports, with innovative sound baffling. In side-by-side tests, it's noticeably quieter, though far from being silent. Like other vacuums in its price range, the Hoover model has the usual array of cleaning wands and attachments. One particularly nice innovation is the rack that holds all the attachments close at hand.

Some of the more innovative vacuum cleaners in this product range are the Hoover Z series of bagless vacuum cleaners. These have the ability to fold up in a "Z" configuration, which allows you to maneuver as if it were a canister vacuum for tight quarters, while maintaining the benefits of the suction power that an upright vacuum cleaner has. It also has supposedly self-cleaning HEPA filters.

The Z-series vacuums are solidly made. We had concerns that the joints would compromise airflow or might stick as it got reconfigured, but were pleasantly surprised when this did not happen. The other major drawback on the Z series is that it's roughly $500, even though it has the same level of cleaning performance as the other two models listed above.

In conclusion, the bagless vacuum cleaner appears to have transformed the floor care appliance segment. None of the models we looked into had the anemic 9-amp or 6-amp motors used a decade ago. All had a professional grade 12-amp motor. You can't go far wrong with bagless vacuums.

North Myrtle Beach Vacations

Myrtle Beach is practically synonymous with loosening up. It's hard to imagine a visitor to this destination taking very long to unwind, and upon leaving it'll be with a body and mind that are light and free. The coastal area known as the "Grand Strand" is attractive for many reasons, but to focus on an especially fun-friendly and not too overwhelming part of it, think North Myrtle Beach.

North Myrtle Beach is tops in more ways than one. It's located well within reach of all the vast area's attractions but it contains a healthy array of activities right on its own turf. Nine miles of spectacular beach, restaurants, shopping and parks all contribute to a general air of rest and relaxation, and once you've established a home base you won't have far to go to see and do everything you've heard about.

Theme parks, aquariums, mini-golf, and even a vineyard will entice you in one of many directions. The beach itself is of course a big draw, and will satisfy those urges you've been having to kick off your shoes, roll up your pant legs, and play around in the surf like you once did as a child. Nothing beats bringing daydreams to life, so continue your reveries just long enough to perfect them and then get ready to make it all happen.

Here's a sample day in North Myrtle Beach: wake up whenever you feel like it. You may be tempted to sleep in because you've been a bit overworked lately, but you also don't want to miss a second of your hard-earned trip so don't be surprised if excitement energizes you in a surprising way. The beach makes an excellent first stop, as watching the sun rise higher into the sky and enjoying the sounds of the waves as they practice their eternal ebb and flow will make you happy to be alive and color the rest of your day in a rosy light.

In addition to just lounging beneath a big umbrella with a paperback in hand, feel free to do a little beach combing, jet-skiing, surfing, fishing or snorkeling. The name of the game is doing what you please, so exhaust a few more beach-themed fantasies if you so please. Hopefully you've allowed yourself ample time to enjoy yourself, because you've only just begun to squeeze all the entertainment you can from North Myrtle Beach.

Next, head to the golf course or get athletic playing baseball, basketball, tennis or beach volleyball. Jog along the shoreline or play Frisbee in the park, stroll down the pier or paddle across Mclean Park's lake. You'll be burning calories no matter what you do and this will be the kind of exercise that's virtually painless. When you're just having fun, that's the best way to stay fit and healthy - mentally and physically.

Dinner shows and family nighttime entertainment are another fun diversion, and if it's just the dinner you're after there are plenty of restaurants from which to choose. The Grand Strand has about 2,000 different places and they range from casual beachside seafood joints to upscale Italian or Japanese establishments. It's pretty safe to say that your appetite will be sated no matter what culinary delights you seek.

To complete the picture of this vacation-friendly destination, know that several annual special events and festivals are on hand to round out this portfolio. Holiday festivities, parades, wine tours, golf tournaments and much more mean that whenever you're here, it's likely that you'll run into a celebration of some kind. Enjoy a concert or a beach party and take home a richer idea concerning the spirit and personality that make this destination tick.

Finally, ensure that all goes as well as it has the potential to by securing not just standard but superior lodgings. Dozens of vacation condos, apartments and beach houses are ready to welcome visitors any time of the year and are set to accommodate groups of all size and disposition. Whether you're here for a wedding, a reunion or a romantic getaway, a North Myrtle Beach Vacation Rental is waiting to house you in comfort and convenience.

Skipping town for a bit to enjoy a restful vacation is something we all deserve at one point or another. If your time has come, start planning today and good luck crafting and enjoying the kind of getaway that you deserve.

Beaches In Rio De Janeiro

Thinking of Rio, the first image that comes to mind is of the sandy beaches, the sun and the 'Girl from Ipanema'. Beach culture is prevalent in all of Brazil, and nowhere is it bigger or more impressive than in Rio de Janeiro. The beach culture in Brazil is a scene for fashion and trend setting. It's not just about enjoying the sun, but also a social occasion. It is a chance to meet, socialize and for participating in sports like volley ball, soccer and surfing. Even during the winter and in poor weather, the Cariocas, as the locals are known, frequent the promenade.

Wedged on a strip of land at the foothills of Rio is one of the world's greatest beaches, Copacabana. This highly populated region reverberates with a non-stop party atmosphere. Beach partying is a ritual here for the young and old alike. With an array of bars and nightclubs, there is always something happening on the beach, day or night. All along the 5 km beach, clusters of people sleep and sunbathe under umbrellas and in the white sand.

Lifeguard stations, called 'postas' are numbered and stretch along the length of the beach. The Copacabana beach stretches from Princesa Isabel Avenue to the lifeguard watchtower six, Posto Seis, near the Forte de Copacaban.

South of the city of Rio de Janeiro, lying adjacent to the Copacabana beach is the district of Ipanema. The beach at Ipanema is lined with world class restaurants cafes and shopping malls. Ipanema is one of the most expensive places in Rio and the symbol of Brazilian pleasure and wealth. It is frequented by affluent Brazillian youth as well as tourists.

Two hills known as the 'Two Brothers' are situated at the western end of the beach. The beach is also marked into segments with points known as postos. Ipanema beach has several favorite hotspots with each block attracting a different type of crowd. There are always people playing football, volleyball, and footvolley, a combination sport unique to Brazil. The beach at Ipanema was immortalized in the song, "Girl from Ipanema" by Carlos Jobim.

The Best Of Royal Paper Shredders

Royal paper shredders are a market standard. The company which makes them, Royal Consumer Information Products, is descended from the Royal Typewriter Company, which was founded in 1906. Their line has expanded to include cash registers, faxes, shredders, postal scales, weather stations, imaging supplies and electronic organizers.

One of Royal's great paper shredders, the Royal 15MX is a high end shredder, intended to be used by small offices. This machine can easily deal with credit cards, paper clips, staples, and even CDs or DVDs. It reduces paper to crosscut strips that are .125" by 1.5" in dimension.

This shredder is able to handle fifteen sheets at once, and its basket can accommodate up to eight gallons of shredded material before it needs to be emptied. This Royal paper shredder weighs in at forty pounds and offers a one year warranty.

Another shredder from Royal, the JS55, is a lower cost shredder meant for home use. It retails at around twenty dollars and is capable of shredding as much as five pages at once. This shredder creates quarter inch crosscut confetti, weigh five pounds, and offers a three gallon receptacle.

It can, however, only be shipped within the United States. This shredder offers a one year warranty, but has received poor reviews from some users due to its low capacity. This shredder should certainly only be used on an occasional basis for destroying papers, not on a daily basis.

If your home needs to shred more often, consider the Royal 85X, a system that retails for around sixty dollars. It can handle ten pages at once and reduces them to smaller pieces than the JS55.

It can deal with credit cards, staples, and other tough items, and also comes with a year's warranty on parts. The trash receptacle is pull out, and fourteen and a half liters - enough to handle most jobs. Be sure not to use this shredder heavily, however. The system can easily become over stressed.

Another home use Royal paper shredder is the 7 Sheet Cross Cut with CD Shred model. This shredder costs around sixty dollars and handles paperclips, staples, and CDs. It shreds to .156" by 1.625" and offers the usual one year warranty on parts. The trash receptacle holds up to four gallons. As this machine weighs fifteen pounds, shipping outside of the US is not available.

Royal's paper shredders meant for home use also include the forty dollar, fourteen pound 8 Sheet Cross Shredder. This machine features an indicator light when there's an error, but tends to run loudly.

One of Royal's older paper shredders, the HT700X features a .125" by 1.5" crosscut, deals with credit cards and staples, and offers a four gallon bin and one year warranty. This shredder weighs ten pounds, and like many others, can only be shipped inside the United States. However, most reviews are poor, so buyers may wish to purchase a newer model.

A small, low cost example of Royal shredders, the JS800 retails at twenty five dollars. It produces fairly large pieces; .25" strips - which could be a problem for people concerned about security. This seven pound model does offer a six gallon trash bin for those who don't like to empty their shredder often.

This machine is only intended to be used occasionally, and must cool down for four minutes after being used for two. Despite this, it gets good reviews from most consumers.

Another lower end machine, the Royal 7 sheet crosscut paper shredder weighs in at fourteen pounds and costs forty dollars. It must also be shipped in the US, or to an APO/FPO address.

It has a feature to turn itself off to avoid overheating, which is useful for those concerned about shredder longevity. However, if you're not familiar with this feature, it can be disconcerting. Some also feel that this shredder is overly top heavy.

Royal's 15 sheet Heavy Duty crosscut shredder can be a great deal. This machine normally runs around three hundred fifty dollars, but can be found online for a hundred and forty. It's a commercial shredder that produces eight inch by one inch confetti, and can handle fifteen pages at once.

This Royal paper shredder also features a slot specifically for destruction of CDs, DVDs and other data disks. The majority of people who buy this paper shredder are happy with their purchase.

Last but not least, Royal offers a 10 Sheet crosscut Paper Shredder, which is a well reviewed mid-level machine. At sixty dollars, it won't break the bank, but has the power to shred discs. This machine produces 1.375" by .16" confetti, can only be shipped within the United States, or to APO/FPO addresses.

Olympics Themed Sports Party for the Family

In the summertime an Olympics themed party can be just the ticket to get your family active and moving rather than sitting in front of the television all day. You can use the idea of a party to get everyone interested and the Olympics theme to get everyone involved in some fun active sports. You can even set up a buffet table for in between the sports so the family can refresh themselves.

If you plan on inviting extended family and friends to the party go ahead and send out Olympics themed party invitations. You can call the event after your own family's surname, so it could be called, 'The Harris Family Olympics.' These Olympics are easy to decorate for. Try stringing up bright yellow streamers all over the party area. You can pick up wall hangings and Olympic posters to stick on the walls and hopefully provide inspiration for the family.

Some Olympic activities you can put together are the 100 meter dash, a relay race, wrestling, jump rope, double Dutch, tennis, volleyball, basketball and even more. The list is pretty much endless; as long as you have the room and the equipment you can turn any sport into a family Olympic game. After each game or every three games or so you can have an award ceremony and give out bronze, gold and silver medals to the winners of the matches. Make these medals out of chocolate and wrapped in different colored foils and your family will be chomping merrily away after the games. In order to make it fair you can create a rule that keeps people who've already won an award from being able to take part in further games.

Make up goodie bags for everyone to take home after the game are over. Put in stickers, tattoos, pencils and pens.
